Just some thoughts on why I blog what I blog…
- First, I love blogging. I love writing; I always have. It is easy for me to write posts. I wouldn’t have done this for three years if the blog was tedious, oppressive, or binding to me. It’s not; it’s become a lovely outlet for me.
- Our primary, most important reason for blogging is to bless our family and our friends by allowing them to be more a part of our life than physical distance would allow. Most of our family, and most of our friends (from college) too, live too far to see frequently, so the majority of the posts revolve around little snippets of our daily life: the mundane, the everyday, the “trivial” & “random” that make up our life at Tatumfam.
- In light of that, I purposely do not post about our personal opinions & beliefs (on a variety of things, including politics, parenting methods/principles, differences in doctrine, etc.) because that would not ultimately serve nor bless the ones we are trying to bless with this blog! Our family & friends do not visit here to get a digest of our personal devotional times, our stances on man-made methods of caring for infants, our opinions about what is going on in the rest of the world, how to solve the world’s problems, etc., etc. They visit Tatumfam to see glimpses of our life. Their time is valuable, and we do not want to “waste” their visit by airing our opinions for the entire world. : ) (And if you do come hoping to “know” us better through posts about a variety of topics like parenting, Christianity, faith, politics–we are SO open to talking through email! We are open to questions, too! Just not here on the blog. But you are always so, so welcome to shoot us an email!)
- We just feel strongly about protecting the lighthearted nature of this blog. This does not mean we do not have definite stances or beliefs on issues–there is much we are very! passionate about.
- It would be very, very easy for me to write about the things I am learning on my journey with God. I love sharing what I am learning through reading His Word, through life’s circumstances, and through living life a part of a local church & with His Body. I have tried writing about those things in the past, too, but I have found that it is sadly one-sided, lonely, and lacking in what is truly supposed to be mutual fellowship. I would rather share my heart, my passions, and my thoughts in person, face-to-face with family & friends.
- Please know that if you have a blog & you DO write about your personal stances, convictions, & thoughts on issues that we do not think you are “wrong”! Rust & I both read many blogs that share such things, as well as blogs that share personal reflections on faith, parenting, and family. They are very encouraging & challenging to us! We have just purposely chosen not to have that be “Tatumfam.” I am so, so thankful for the full range of bloggers out there–those who blog about their faith & what they are learning in their walk the Lord, those who share resources & links about world issues, those who show crafts & projects & recipes that inspire me.
What you will find here: pictures! pictures! and pictures! recipes, projects, minibooks, crafts, occasional thoughts on mothering my own children (not yours!), the everyday gifts God has given to our family, the occasional tutorial or DIY, homelife, things we’re doing to raise, nurture, and educate our littlest family members, music we enjoy, video clips, resources & links that have been inspiring & helpful to us, lists of various shapes & sizes, and any other lighthearted fun we come up with!
If this isn’t enough, I have written a little more of my heart behind why I don’t blog about certain things.
As always, those who are regular readers of this blog, I am so thankful for you! It has been wonderful keeping up-to-date with old friends & making new ones, too! You are always welcome here, and I am always thrilled to receive comments & emails!
Thank you again for taking your precious time to read this!
